The Newry City AFC Academy were back in action last weekend:
Newry City AFC U9 had some great performances from the on Saturday against Camlough Rovers and Meadowlands. Lots of free-flowing football on show and lots of goals to top it off.
Newry City AFC u11 v Oxford Sunnyside 2014 colts at Lisburn Rec 2B
A tough match for Newry against Oxford Sunnyside. The game was very scrappy and stop/start but the Newry lads battled on regardless but despite numerous chances – they couldn’t break the deadlock. Oxford Sunnyside took a 2-0 lead into half time with a clearance/shot and a well worked goal.
After the break, Newry continued to press but couldn’t put the ball in the net. Oxford Sunnyside scored a third right at the end with a counter attack when Newry were pressing. A frustrating game for Newry but we can learn from it.
Next game – Camlough Rovers 2014 v Newry City at Camlough stadium at 9am on 28th September
Newry City AFC u12 v Ballymacash U12
Newry started well and created plenty of chances in the first half. Luke Dinsmore was able to put one of these away to put the u12s in the lead going into the break.
In the second half, Newry defended well and also created more chances with Tom Woollard hitting the crossbar and Corey Rooney hitting the post. Ballymacash managed to equalise from a corner with ten minutes remaining. The game had a dramatic ending with what looked like a certain penalty for Newry but it wasn’t to be.
FT 1-1 and still unbeaten in the Lisburn League.
Newry City AFC U15 v Hillsborough boys Saturday 21/9/24
Newry got off to a good start with a goal from Tomas Devlin 5mins into the game.
Newry dominated the next 20 mins with multiple scoring chances unfortunately none materialised and Hillsborough boys got a goal just before the half time break.
In the second half Hillsborough got off to a better start and were rewarded with a free kick scoring a great goal. Newry made a few changes to try and get the equaliser, a few opportunities were created but none hit the back of the net! In the end Hillsborough hit them again with another free kick to end the game 3-1 in their favour.
Stand out players for Newry: Tomas Devlin and Darragh Rigley
Newry City AFC U16 V Glentoran U16
After a tough first half in which we dug deep and made it difficult to break us down, Glentoran then broke us down and took the lead with 10 minutes to go before half time but we reacted well and created a couple of chances and brought out a top class save from the Glentoran keeper to keep it at 1-0 at half time.
In the second half we made it again difficult for Glentoran while creating a chance on the break but 15 minutes into the second half Glentoran doubled their lead but again a good reaction from us helped us pull a goal back from a good strike from just outside the box but just 2 minutes later Glentoran killed the game from a corner.
