New Signing Shane Forbes with Assistant Manager Ryan Moffatt

City seal Forbes signing

Newry City AFC are delighted to announce the signing of Shane Forbes.

The attacking midfielder, who turns 21 next month, arrives at The Showgrounds following a spell in the Sports Direct Premiership with Carrick Rangers for the second half of last season.

A product of the Shelbourne Youth Academy, Shane last breakthrough season came in 2024 with Athlone Town, where he made 25 appearances in the League of Ireland First Division.

He impressed in Saturday’s friendly away to Leinster Senior League side Kilbarrack United, scoring the second goal in a 3-3 draw in Dublin.

“I’m looking forward to the season ahead and getting game time at Newry,” said Forbes after becoming Stuart King’s latest signing.

“This season is all about getting the club back up the leagues and I’m excited to be a part of that.”

“We’re delighted to get Shane on board,” said King.

“It took a lot of work behind the scenes, but I feel he will be an important member of the squad. He’s quick, sharp, has an eye for goal and is different to everyone we have. I think he will become a fan favourite and after his performance on Saturday in Dublin, I’m delighted he has agreed to sign.

“I would like to put on record my thanks to the Chairman and board members who helped make this happen.”

New Signing Ryan Fearon with First Team Assistant Manager Ryan Moffatt

Fearon signs at The Showgrounds

Newry City AFC are delighted to announce the signing of Ryan Fearon.

Having impressed in our pre-season fixtures to date, the 23-year-old joins after playing for Newry Celtic in the Carnbane League.

Ryan, who can play in midfield or full-back, follows in the footsteps of his late father Wayne Brown, who also played for the club.

“It’s a fantastic club, my boyhood club that I’ve always dreamed of playing for, coming to the matches when I was young seeing my Dad play at that top level,” says Ryan.

“I still have him in frames in the Newry City jersey and it’s inspiring me to put the work in and get to that top level, not only for him, but for myself and to start challenging for a place in the team.

“For Stuarty to give me this chance after not even seeing me play was surreal. I’ve been given so much game time and he’s already directing me in parts of my game that I’m doing right and more importantly wrong,” he added.

“Stuarty, Pixie and all the staff behind the scenes are great individuals and while it’s almost a brand new team, we’re all starting to gel. The personalities at the club are great, the banter is starting to flow and there is excitement about the club for the fans to get down and enjoy coming to the games again.

“That’s one of the main reasons we need to perform and bring Newry back to winning ways. The only people who can do that are us, the players.

“I’m excited to get started and see where the season takes us.”

“Ryan is someone who has come in during pre-season and impressed from minute one,” says Assistant Manager Ryan Moffatt.

“His attitude is top drawer, he’s working and can play in a number of different positions. “Ryan is another local lad who had his pick of clubs and we are delighted he has chosen Newry City.”

Newry City are delighted to announce the signing of Kane Rossiter.

The 24-year-old striker joins his hometown club after a highly impressive season with Camlough Rovers in the Carnbane League, where he scored 54 goals in just 32 games.

Having impressed in training and our three pre-season matches to date, Kane is delighted to have made the move to The Showgrounds.

“I’m absolutely buzzing to join Newry. Being from the town and getting to pull on the jersey means a lot to me,” he said.

“When I first talked to Stuarty, his vision for the club and his passion really sold me. I’m looking forward to pushing on now with this group of lads and getting stuck into the new season.

“It’s a big step up for me personally, coming from Camlough Rovers in the Carnbane League, but I’m excited for the challenge and hopefully I can help put some pride back into Newry football, and hopefully score a few goals on the way,” Kane added.

Assistant Manager Ryan Moffatt added: “We’re delighted to get Kane on board, especially as we know there was a lot of interest in his signature, including from teams in higher leagues.

“We’re pleased he has chosen Newry. He’s a Newry lad and has done very well in the Carnbane League, where his goalscoring record speaks for itself.”
