On Sunday past, three of Newry City AFC’s coaching staff represented Northern Ireland Over 40s in a friendly against Newry United Over 35s, a team made up of retired footballers from the locality. All proceeds of the match were in aid of Marie Curie Cancer.

Newry manager Darren Mullen and first team coach Micky Keenan who are regulars in the NI Over 40 team, played alongside assistant manager Raymond Byrne who made his debut. They were joined by former Newry and Cliftonville ace Shane Mulholland, who was also making his debut for the international side. The game was a keenly contested affair, with the Newry United over 35 team running out 2-0 winners but the real winner on the day was Marie Curie Cancer as almost £1000 was raised for the charity.

The game was organised as part of the Respect Football project by Martin Connell. To learn more about the Respect Football project and the work they do you can visit their website at www.respectproject.co.uk
