Liam Bagnall Signs at The Showgrounds

Newry City AFC Manager Gary Boyle has made his fifth summer signing in the experienced midfielder Liam Bagnall.

Boyle commented “Liam is a player I have been nibbling away at in the background for some time.

He needs no introduction; he is an inspirational player, a leader, captained teams and won trophies at the highest level.

He will bring a steely determination, a winning mentality and that never say die attitude – the foundation of which this club has been built!

He is another player who will set standards, expect them from himself and demand them from his teammates.

He knows the club, knows the majority of the lads and is eager to get going!

We, as a club are delighted to get him on board.”

Bagnall commented “I am delighted to get the opportunity to play for Newry in the Irish league. I’m looking forward to the challenge ahead.

Newry has a great local support and I’m looking forward to getting started and playing in front of the home crowd at The Showgrounds.”

Adam Carroll Signs at The Showgrounds

Newry City AFC Manager Gary Boyle has made his fourth summer signing in Adam Carroll following his release from Warrenpoint Town FC.

Boyle commented “Adam is a player we have been keeping a keen eye on from afar over the last couple of seasons. He is exactly the type of player we are looking to attract to the club; being young, local, with quality and the ability to improve even further.

Adam can play in a number of attacking positions and compliments the players we already have at the club. Our supporters can expect to see an exciting attacking player with a keen eye for goal.

I would like to place on record our thanks to Barry and Warrenpoint Town FC for assisting with the deal.”

Carroll commented “I am delighted to sign for my hometown club. I can’t wait to get going in front of the fans, I know it will be a long and tough season but I am confident with the group that the manager has put together that anything is possible. I’m looking forward to helping Newry in their next step.”

Gary commented “Michael comes in to complete the back-room staff as assistant manager along with existing coaches Damien Hillen, Damian McCorry and Mickey Keenan. Michael has had a hugely distinguished and successful playing career thus far and is another massive addition for the club. Having completed my badges with Michael I have seen his work first hand and I know he will be a terrific fit for the club. I am delighted and really excited to be working with him.”

Michael commented “I am really looking forward to working with Gary, the existing coaches and the team. This will be my first year involved in the coaching side but it’s something that I have been looking to do for last year or two. It will be a big challenge for myself and Gary to replicate the job Darren has done for last 10 years but it’s a challenge I’m looking forward to. I would like to thank Gary as well for giving me this opportunity to work with him at a great club.”

Gary Boyle commented “Barney is a player we all know and trust having played at The Showgrounds in the 19/20 season. He’s the profile of player we are looking for, has played and captained a team in the Premiership at the tender age of 21; we are sure his development will continue and his best years are with us at NCAFC.

His desire to remain in the Premiership and return to the club is testament to his character and we are delighted to have him on board.

I would like to thank David Campbell from David Campbell Sports Management Ltd for his professionalism and assistance with the deal.”

Barney commented “It’s great to sign for the club again. I really enjoyed my time at The Showgrounds in my first spell even though I didn’t get the game time l would have liked through injury problems. Last season I was able to fend the injuries off so I am hoping that will continue, I’m looking forward to getting back into the dressing room and start to prepare for the season ahead.”
