McGovern Signs at The Showgrounds

As we are only a few days away from kick off in the Bluefin Sport Championship, Newry Manager Darren Mullen is delighted to add talented teenager John McGovern to the squad. Mullen commented “Whilst John is only 16 and signed as one for the future it’s hard to ignore his initial impact. He’s not your normal 16-year-old in terms of his pace and physicality but what we have to do is manage his obvious potential to get the best out of him. I’ve no doubt he will enjoy his football with us and as another local lad it’s a further sign that if you are good enough you will get your chance at the club.”

John McGovern commented “I am delighted to sign for Newry City and am grateful for a chance to play in the NIFL Championship. I would like to thank Windmill Stars for the one on one coaching and positive encouragement that has helped to get me to this stage in my career. I am now looking forward to joining the Newry squad and doing my very best to get the club back to the Premiership. Hopefully I can help get the club promoted with a few goals!”

McCaul & Moody Re-Sign

With the new season just around the corner Newry Manager Darren Mullen has bolstered his squad by re-signing Conor McCaul and Karl Moody.

💬 Conor is the only remaining player from Intermediate B and has stepped up with ease to each level. His defensive capabilities and ability to take the ball out of defence have played a big part in our success and I’m delighted he came back from Australia earlier than planned.

Karl came to us at a difficult stage of the season last year and it’s never easy for any player never mind a forward coming into a relegation battle. That said he acquitted himself well and quickly became a popular lad within the group. He showed enough within that period to earn himself a new deal and I’m hoping he can be a valuable player for us this year. 💬

Curran & Mullen Re-Sign

Having experience on board brings stability to the changing room and to that end Newry Manager Darren Mullen is delighted to have secured the services of Neil Mullen and Ian Curran for the forthcoming season.

Newry Manager Darren Mullen commented “Having Ian and Neil on board for another year gives us that added depth to the squad that we need. Both are hugely experienced and are extremely popular members of the squad so I’m delighted they have signed on for another year.”

Lennon Signs at The Showgrounds

Newry Manager Darren Mullen has continued to add to his squad securing the signature of experienced defender Ultan Lennon. Mullen commented “With Dara Noonan going to Australia and with Paddy Mooney still injured centre back was the one area that we still needed more depth in. Ultan joins us having played a huge part in Armagh City’s success in previous years and he is a player we tried to sign before. He has great potential and I feel that he can make a big contribution for us this season

Ultan Lennon “After many enjoyable years playing at Armagh City FC I am sad to leave but I am ready for a new challenge with Newry.  I know last season was tough for the team but I know Newry have the capability to be an established Premiership Club with the fans and facilities that are here and I hope that I can help make that happen.  I am familiar with a number of past and present Newry players who have told me great things about the club and hold Darren in high regard, so I am looking forward to the challenge ahead and can’t wait to get started.”
