O’Connor On Loan

Newry Manager Darren Mullen is delighted to finish his transfer business with the loan of Ciaran O’Connor from Glentoran FC.

Darren Mullen “I said throughout the window that we wouldn’t be signing players for the sake of it and would always hold off for the right type of player. We have waited until the last day for what is a fantastic signing for us in Ciaran. He is a proven top-quality player at this level and is a massive coup for the club. I’ve no doubt he will do well for us and I’m sure the fans are looking forward to seeing him play in a Newry jersey.”

Ciaran O’Connor commented “I am delighted to have this deal sorted to go on loan with Newry, I have watched them over the last few years since they reformed and I have always been impressed with the football they play. I’ve spoken to Darren and really liked how he spoke about the club and what he wants to do. It was great to see the lads get a result last night as I’ve heard their first 3 performances have been really positive so I’m looking forward to getting stuck into training and hopefully contribute to a successful season at The Showgrounds.”

He is composed on the ball and has a good range of passing so is a good fit for the style of football that we play.”

Clarke Signs at The Showgrounds

Having excelled at Gaelic football Newry manager Darren Mullen has offered ex Armagh player Jamie Clarke the opportunity to prove his worth on the soccer field, a chance the Crossmaglen native is keen to exploit.

Mullen commented “Jamie is obviously well known for his exploits on the Gaelic pitch but he has shown in the short time he has been with us that he can add something to our attacking line up. He’s a smart skilful player and is keen to show what he can do at this level of football. It will obviously take him a while to bed in but I’m looking forward to seeing him playing in a Newry shirt.”

Clarke commented “I’m delighted to sign for Newry, everyone has been very welcoming in helping me settle in. It is an extremely close knit club and that comes through on the pitch. Darren has been excellent with me and I’ve been very impressed with him and the coaching staff’s plans for the season ahead. There’s a brilliant mix youth and experience, including my own hometown friend James Teelan, who is an exceptional talent. I’ll put my head down now and put in the work to help the team in Premiership.”

Ready for the Season Ahead

Newry City AFC are delighted to launch our new home jersey for the 22/23 Danske Bank Premierhsip and welcome on board our new main shirt sponsor HMT Group.

Commercial manager Gary Wilson said “Having achieved promotion to the NIFL Premiership, in doing so ensuring that top flight football continues to be played in the area, we are pleased that the Club can offer promotional exposure opportunities to local businesses. Our club relies heavily on the support of the local community, be that from fans coming through the turnstiles or by businesses investing in our club. We see both avenues as critical to the growth of our brand. Therefore we are delighted to unveil HMT Group as our shirt sponsor for the forthcoming season. We now look forward to a successful partnership with HMT Shipping and are grateful to the Directors of HMT Group, Jarlath and Gerard Magee for their support.
