Blaine Hughes signs at The Showgrounds

Newry Manager Darren Mullen is delighted to add Blaine Hughes to his Goalkeeping options.

“It was obvious we needed good competition in the GK area with Mark the only senior keeper at the club. Blaine has shown his qualities playing for Armagh seniors in recent years so that experience will stand him in good stead in terms of making the transition to soccer. He’s vocal, strong in the air and can pick a good pass so is another welcome addition to the club.”

Blaine commented “I am really excited about joining Newry. Having previously played for the club at youth level I knew the fantastic set up the club have and what I was coming to. After not playing soccer for a while I am very grateful to Darren for giving me the opportunity to play at a high standard and after meeting the management team and players I can’t wait to get stuck into training and see what the season brings.”

Dane Lind Signs at The Showgrounds

Newry City AFC are delighted to confirm that Dane Lind has joined the club (subject to international clearance). The California born striker, most recently on the books of Orange County Soccer Club U23s in USL League 2 and a graduate of Amherst College, joins having impressed during a brief trial spell.

Darren Mullen stated: “Dane is a very talented young player who arrived with us after missing the window down south. Sometimes a signing comes out of the blue and this is certainly one of them. He has arrived after doing very well at college level in the USA and is keen to impress at this level. He is strong quick and has a clever eye for goal so he’s a welcome addition to our squad.”

When speaking to newrycityafc.co.uk Dane stated: “ I’m really excited to be joining Newry this year. Everyone involved with the club has just been spectacular and so kind in getting me all settled. This is obviously a big change for me coming from The States but it’s great to know that I’m surrounded by so many good people and such a great group of guys on the team.”

Welcome to the Showgrounds Dane!

Lawless & O’Keeffe Sign

Newry City AFC are delighted to confirm the signings of Conor O’Keeffe and Stephen Lawless, both players fresh from a spell playing in New Zealand’s top division with Dunedin side Southern United.

Darren Mullen

“The signing of the 2 lads came out of the blue but I’m delighted they have joined the club. From their first training session you could see the quality that both players have. They have taken that into the 3 friendly games and have impressed not only the coaching staff but their fellow team mates. Conor is a classy defender who makes things look really simple and Stephen has brought plenty of energy and creativity to our midfield. I’m looking forward to seeing them play for us this season and contributing to what is now a really competitive squad. I’d like the thank their former coach Paul O’Reilly for recommending both signings.”

Conor O’Keeffe

“I’m delighted to sign for Newry City. It’s been a really enjoyable few weeks since I came in. Everyone at the club has been so welcoming and have made me feel part of the club straight away. I have played three games now in pre-season and the style of play has been enjoyable to play in. I’m looking forward to the rest of pre-season, getting fully fit and helping the team push for promotion back up to the Premiership.”

Stephen Lawless

“I am very happy to link in with Darren and the rest of the group ahead of the new season. Straight away there’s been a very welcoming and positive vibe about the place between staff members, players and other club people, so I’m looking forward to getting stuck into pre-season and working hard after some months off due to COVID. Hopefully I can hit the ground running ahead of the new season and help make an impact on what should be an exciting season for the club.”
