WIN £4000 worth of sporting equipment for NCAFC!

1 in 4 local young people struggle with their mental health in Northern Ireland*, a very worrying statistic for any parent or guardian to hear. Taking part in sport has been shown to have both physical and mental benefits for children. Participating in sports and playing in teams provides children with a life-long support system of friends and mentors and can improve their social skills, self-esteem, body confidence, and ability to deal with peer pressure.

That’s why Lidl have launched the Lidl Community Works Sport For Good programme. Their mission is to encourage young people to make the most of the physical and mental benefits of taking part in sports so they can have a healthy body and mind.

Lidl Community Works Sport for Good is giving away £4000 worth of sports equipment to youth sports clubs across Northern Ireland! To find out how you can nominate your club to win visit www.lidl-ni.co.uk/communityworks

Durnin, Healy & Rushe Re-Sign at The Showgrounds

Newry Manager Darren Mullen continued his close season team rebuilding work securing the services of Josh Durnin, Noel Healy and Tiarnán Rushe. Mullen commented “After securing some of our more senior players it’s important that we balance the squad by keeping our best young players. All 3 lads will have benefitted greatly from Premiership football this year and I’ve every confidence they will take their opportunities to become vital players in the coming season.”

Josh Durnin commented “I would like to thank the Darren and coaching staff for giving me the opportunity to re-sign for Newry. I am delighted to have been given this chance and I can’t wait to get started. Last season obviously ended in a disappointment. However I’ve no doubt next season myself and the team can push on and get back where we belong.”

Noel Healy commented “I am delighted to be staying on at Newry. I have really enjoyed my time here so far and the support I have got has been super, it is a real family club which is what I love. Unfortunately, I broke my wrist at the end of last season playing for the U20s which ended my season earlier than I had hoped, but I am on the road to recovery now and can’t wait for pre-season to come around to get going.”

Tiarnán Rushe commented “You can’t beat the feeling pulling on the jersey for your home town club so I am delighted that Darren has asked me to re-sign. Everyone knows last season didn’t go as we had planned but I know that we have all learned from the experience and we will be better for it next season.”

More good news…

Happy Friday Newry City AFC Fans! We have another little bit of team news for you….

Newry Manager Darren Mullen has secured another year of service from Thomas ‘Tucker’ McCann at The Showgrounds, “If there’s a player at the club who epitomises our rise through the ranks it would have to be Tucker. He has adapted to each league with ease and has been vital in our success. The fact he played the last few months of the season whilst in constant pain shows his commitment to the club and I’m delighted to have him on board again.”

McCann commented “I’d like to thank Darren and the coaching staff for giving me the opportunity to play a fifth season for my home town club. We have achieved so much in the last few years and I believe last season will make us stronger in the long run. I’d like to take this opportunity to thank all the fans for their continued support for both the club and me personally and I can’t wait to get back at it next season.”
