Rambo Signs for City

Already building for next season tonight Newry unveiled Stephen Hughes as Manager Darren Mullens first signing of the summer.

Speaking to Newry City AFC.co.uk Stephen commented, “I can’t wait to get started, it’s great that it’s a team made up largely of local players some of whom I’ve played with before. The facilities at the club are brilliant with one of the best pitches in the Irish League. Since being with Newry City FC I’ve gained more experience playing at a higher level with Warrenpoint Town and Portadown and now the club is going in the right direction and I want to be part of that and get that one more promotion to get into the Premier League. Whether that happens next season or after that, we will work hard to get there. All being well I’ll finish my career at Newry in the Premiership.”

Newry Manager Darren Mullen “To sign someone of Rambo’s ability shows the progress we are making at the club. Once we knew he was available we moved quickly and are delighted to have him back at his hometown club. Moving up to The Championship will be a lot tougher for us but having players of Rambo’s ability will only strengthen us. I’m sure the fans will be delighted as are the current players who he knows well. Seeing him back in a Newry jersey is a great boost for the club and I’m looking forward to working with him next season.”

Match Report and reaction to follow….

Newry ‘holm’ in on promotion

Newry make the short journey to Holm Park this evening to take on Armagh City in the second leg of the Promotion/Relegation Play-Off.

Darren Mullen’s men go into the match with a four goal advantage following a comprehensive 4-0 victory at the Showgrounds in the first leg of the Play-Off on Tuesday. There is still all to play for though, as Armagh will no doubt prove to be a completely proposition on the Holm Park, 3G pitch.

Come on Newry!

Kick off is at 7:45pm.

Tony Scappaticci R.I.P

It is with deep regret that Newry City AFC has heard of the untimely passing of former Newry Town player Tony Scappaticci. A minutes silence will be observed prior to the 7.45KO against Armagh City tomorrow night. The thoughts of everyone at Newry City AFC are with Tonys family at this very sad time.
