Owens and Poynton Sign

Newry City AFC Manager Gary Boyle is delighted to have added extra strength to his team with the signings of Daragh Owens and Georgie Poynton from Glebe North FC.

Commenting on both players Boyle said “Georgie is a player who has played at the top level in the LOI. He is hugely experienced but at only 25 has his best years ahead of him. He has been regaining his fitness with us in pre-season and we have seen the quality he possesses. He is vocal, sets standards and has integrated with the group seamlessly.”

“Daragh is a young player who was recommended to us; he is ready to step up having excelled in the Leinster League. Technically gifted, composed in possession, with a great left foot. He has been terrific in preseason and we are thrilled to have him on board!”

Tom Murphy Signs at The Showgrounds

Newry manager Gary Boyle has bolstered his squad with the signing of goalkeeper Tom Murphy.

Boyle commented “Tom is another fantastic signing. He is young, extremely talented and feels he has a point to prove. He has bought in to how we are trying to progress as a club.

It is every managers dream to have competition in every area and we now have that in abundance in our GK division. We are very happy to welcome him to the club.”

Murphy commented “I’m delighted to sign for the club. From the first minute speaking to Gary, it was something that excited me and when he explained what he wanted to do this season it was something I wanted to be a part of.

We have a brilliant group of players and the lads have been very welcoming since I came in. We’ve been laying down the foundations in pre-season to be prepared to hit the ground running come the first game of the season.

I’m looking forward to seeing what this season holds, and getting out playing in front of all the fans at The Showgrounds.”

Gary commented “Lee comes in to us off the back of a very successful stint at Rathfriland. A goal scorer who provides the team with a slightly different attacking dimension whilst complementing the attacking players we have at the club. Another relatively local talent, who, at 26, is ready to kick on with the next chapter of his career.

A great character whose personality and attitude are in tune with the core values of our club; he will fit into the group seamlessly. I know he can’t wait to get going!”

There is a great atmosphere around the club and I’m excited to be a part of that and help the club push on to achieve the goals set for this season.”
