Durnin, Healy & Rushe Re-Sign at The Showgrounds
Newry Manager Darren Mullen continued his close season team rebuilding work securing the services of Josh Durnin, Noel Healy and Tiarnán Rushe. Mullen commented “After securing some of our more senior players it’s important that we balance the squad by keeping our best young players. All 3 lads will have benefitted greatly from Premiership football this year and I’ve every confidence they will take their opportunities to become vital players in the coming season.”
Josh Durnin commented “I would like to thank the Darren and coaching staff for giving me the opportunity to re-sign for Newry. I am delighted to have been given this chance and I can’t wait to get started. Last season obviously ended in a disappointment. However I’ve no doubt next season myself and the team can push on and get back where we belong.”

Noel Healy commented “I am delighted to be staying on at Newry. I have really enjoyed my time here so far and the support I have got has been super, it is a real family club which is what I love. Unfortunately, I broke my wrist at the end of last season playing for the U20s which ended my season earlier than I had hoped, but I am on the road to recovery now and can’t wait for pre-season to come around to get going.”

Tiarnán Rushe commented “You can’t beat the feeling pulling on the jersey for your home town club so I am delighted that Darren has asked me to re-sign. Everyone knows last season didn’t go as we had planned but I know that we have all learned from the experience and we will be better for it next season.”

More good news…
Happy Friday Newry City AFC Fans! We have another little bit
of team news for you….
Newry Manager Darren Mullen has secured another year of service from Thomas ‘Tucker’
McCann at The Showgrounds, “If there’s a player at the club who epitomises our
rise through the ranks it would have to be Tucker. He has adapted to each
league with ease and has been vital in our success. The fact he played the last
few months of the season whilst in constant pain shows his commitment to the
club and I’m delighted to have him on board again.”
McCann commented “I’d like to thank Darren and the coaching staff for giving me
the opportunity to play a fifth season for my home town club. We have achieved
so much in the last few years and I believe last season will make us stronger
in the long run. I’d like to take this opportunity to thank all the fans for
their continued support for both the club and me personally and I can’t wait to
get back at it next season.”

Hughes & King Re-Sign
Yesterday Newry Manager Darren Mullen promised that there would be more squad announcements in the coming days, this starts off with getting our Club Captain Mark Hughes & Darren King back on board for the 2019/20 season. Mullen commented “It is vital we have a strong spine of experienced quality players for next season and both Darren and Mark fall into that category. Not only are they leaders on the pitch but are also terrific ambassadors for the club. They are as determined as I am to get the club back playing Premiership football and I am delighted to have them back on board for next season.”
Mark Hughes “I’m delighted to have signed for another year
at The Showgrounds. I know I can speak on behalf of the team and say that we know
we let ourselves down last season, so we will take our break and will be
working hard in pre-season to start off on the right foot to hopefully bounce
straight back up. I believe that if we add a bit more quality to the squad that
we already have we definitely won’t be far away from”
Darren King “With the disappointment of how this
season finished, I am delighted to put pen to paper for next season, the most
important thing for me is to get back at it straight away and help get our club
back to the Premiership. As players we know we have unfinished business in the
top league and we need to start working hard from now on. We owe it to
ourselves but more importantly we owe it to the fans, manager & coaching
staff due to the faith they have shown throughout.”
